Feel safer in a gated community
Recent years have seen a rise in gated communities. Their popularity might probably be a result of how brazen criminals have become and they certainly offer a sense of security, exclusivity, and community for their residents. Residents of gated communities experience an enhanced sense of security due to solutions such as controlled access, for example. Biometrics such as retinal-scanners, fingerprint sensors, card readers or number plate readers. These measures decrease the possibility of intrusion into the premises, thus providing an additional layer of security and giving residents peace of mind. Upon entry, they usually have security booths, boom gates, and/or barriers that restrict access to authorized residents and guests. Another complementary solution that heighten gated communities’ security is surveillance. Most gated communities have Closed Circuit Television (CCTV). Immediately upon entry, some communities have deployed CCTVs that conduct facial recognition and number plate recognition. This makes it easier to track visitors and results in record keeping and when necessary for law-enforcement, it enables tracking of suspected criminals and criminals alike. CCTV is not only mounted at the gate, but also throughout the premises themselves. From streetlight to any other post, CCTVs can be mounted to increase visuals and monitoring of surrounding areas. A wide variety of camera’s can be deployed that include panoramic – which allow the user a wider, broader view of surroundings; thermal – which detects objects via heat signal; and the standard CCTV camera which can also be equipped with night vision to be able to view objects, trespassers or even animals in the night. Motion detectors are another excellent solution. Based on radar, they detect any activity and when linked, they can activate camera’s to trace and follow moving objects or individuals at times when movement around the rest of the premises should be minimal. Motion sensors can also be linked to alarms, which when triggered, will deter criminals from pursuing their objectives. All of these solutions are usually streamlined with security personnel who may be situated in a control room to monitor footage from the CCTV on screens. Security personnel are constantly aware of activities and when something seems amiss, they contact relevant authorities. Usually, there are also patrol guards that monitor the area and respond to incidents. Together, security at the control room and the patrol guards can synchronize their actions and prove to be quite an effective security solution. In addition, the physical barrier surrounding the gated community: from electric fences to razor wires – they act as deterrents to criminals while preventing unauthorized entry and exit. From the gate right down to the household itself, gated communities are usually well-equipped with advanced secure measures. Each household is usually equipped with an either an intercom or a video intercom for an extra layer of security, meaning that security starts from the doorstep, right up to the gate. To maintain optimal security, gated communities should: 1. Regularly update and maintain security systems. 2. Conduct thorough background checks on security personnel. 3.
